Here's what the authors, agents, publishers, and book publicists I've worked with have to say about me.

Danielle Goodman is simply one of the best editors in the business today. Her professionalism and work ethic, her positive, get-it-done attitude, and her “this is not just an assignment to me or a job,” sense of mission from beginning to end: This is the magic sauce of Danielle Goodman. It was evident in my last bestselling book The Memo and it became a transformational asset to this new book, Up From Nothing.

Danielle listened to and understood, translated, and ultimately was able to even channel my unique voice when I was not available for an immediate change or edit needed for the manuscript. She was always right on point with what I meant—and what an author “truly means” is everything to an author.
In many ways, Danielle spiritually co-wrote the underlying energy of this book with me, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

I honestly cannot say enough good and expansive things about Danielle's work. She took my book manuscript for Wild, Willing, and Wise and immediately understood what I was trying to convey. With her keen eye and strong sense of what was possible, she helped me bring out the message of the book clearly.

For the places where I was stuck she easily shared ideas and bridges that transformed the book from mediocre to marvelous.

I will definitely use Danielle again for a future book project, and am so grateful to have found such an impeccable, supportive, and professional editor and book guide.

I have absolutely loved working with Danielle to develop my book ideas and a thorough book outline that had been years in the making. I say years because until I started working with her, it only existed in my mind! She has helped me so much with consistency and accountability.

Danielle has been the perfect, steady, grounded balance to my very creative-brained nature. I tend to be a little all over the place with my ideas, and she has helped organize them in such a beautiful way.

She also adds such valuable feedback. One of my favorite parts of working together has been her excitement about my work and her belief in me. Having someone who believes in what you are doing goes an extremely long way.

Working with Danielle is absolutely when I get the most writing done, and that has been so helpful to my process. I highly recommend hiring her to help bring your book ideas to life!

Working with Danielle was an outstanding experience. She meticulously understood the essence of our project, our goals, intentions, and the target audience. Given the dual authorship of our book, Danielle skillfully ensured our narratives merged seamlessly into a single, coherent voice.

Her feedback was precise and insightful, complemented by thoughtful suggestions for enhancement.

Danielle's brought the perspective of her own experience, asking us pertinent questions that made our narrative stronger. Danielle's professionalism made her exceptionally easy to collaborate with. She gracefully accommodated our demanding schedule.

We wholeheartedly endorse Danielle for anyone seeking profound and constructive insights into their manuscript. Her dedication and expertise are truly invaluable.

I loved working with Danielle from start to finish. I really value her upfront communication, clear organization, and ability to always meet deadlines.

The thing that I found the most helpful with her editing style was the questionnaire that she had me fill out to begin with so that she could make sure to tailor her edits towards my actual work, my vision, and my desires for the book.

This helped her to nail my voice in a way that seamlessly integrated with my manuscript, rather than feeling forced or heavy handed. I will definitely continue to work with her on future projects!

Danielle was a perfect developmental editor.

She "got it" immediately and stretched from big-picture, structural feedback down to the small details of writing style.

On the soft side, she was warm but firm — the exact partner an author needs during the most vulnerable moments of the book-writing process. Not to mention, for those with an international audience, she comes with Global South roots and a Global North perspective to boot. She comes highly recommended to help bring your big idea to life.

Danielle was amazing to work with. After an initial read of my manuscript, she nailed my voice and set to work. As the developmental editor for my first book, I gave her full license. She shaped the book so skillfully I was honestly wowed. I like to say that she took a lump of clay with good intentions and made something beautiful and usable. I've already recommended Danielle several times and will continue to do so!

I trust and endorse Danielle to work on our books with no reservations. Danielle and I have been working together for over a decade now, and in that time she has consistently demonstrated how skilled she is at taking something and really improving and building it on both macro and micro levels. Larger concerns such as general structure, flow, and argument are expertly addressed while even individual word choices and sentences receive great attention—all while carefully maintaining the author’s voice. It’s a rare trait—this ability to balance between the two—but Danielle makes it look effortless.

In all the years we have worked together, Danielle constantly exceeded (and continues to exceed) expectations and has impressed not just me but the many authors she has worked with (which include many names you read on bestseller lists). One of these authors once told me of her work, “It’s just like I wrote it—a much smarter, focused, and authoritative version of me, but still me.” It’s hard to find individuals capable of this “invisible” editorial alchemy, which is why I consistently remain in her debt.

Danielle was instrumental in helping craft a cohesive and focused finished product from the volumes of journal notes, cards, and personal writing I brought to the table. Her joy and exuberance were always there and served as continuous encouragement for me. Danielle was able to both motivate me to do a better job while taking on significant work to build on my writing. She is a true collaborator and co-creator extraordinaire! I hold a very deep heart-felt appreciation for getting to work with Danielle and have come to see her as a trusted guide.

As an inexperienced author, Danielle crafted my rough narrative and verbose technical explanations into more simple language that a lay person could relate to. She is an amazing story developer and line editor. She really took the time to understand my writings, core messages and made them sing. In addition to her editorial skills, Danielle also helped get more out of me, and this came through in subsequent edits as the manuscript developed. If you are looking for an editor to undertake critical re-shaping and formatting of your story line, Danielle is a wonderful resource.

As a first-time author, I knew choosing the right developmental editor would be key to our book's success. We also had a lot of moving pieces since we were co-writing the book and including multiple contributors.

I had received a couple of editor recommendations and was drawn to Danielle because of her relevant experience, enthusiasm for the book's topic, and the thoroughness of her feedback.

I was grateful that after our initial call, she shared examples of past edits so I could get a sense of what it would be like to work with her. And the assessment she offered was so helpful.

I really appreciated that Danielle shared both what was working with the manuscript (positive feedback at this stage was really helpful!) and what could be improved. Her perspective was incredibly helpful in shaping the book.

I also really appreciated all of the specific recommendations that Danielle shared. She didn't just share what could be improved, she also offered specific suggestions that were incredibly helpful.

I highly recommend working with Danielle on your developmental edit. You'll be so glad you did!

Our book is as good as it is primarily because of Danielle’s genius in bringing our two voices together as one.

She was a wizard at organizing our content into highly consumable and engaging content, and then keeping us on schedule with a tight timeline.

She did this all with diplomacy and grace while never shying from being candid and direct when necessary.

Working with Danielle was a game changer for my writing process. When I was introduced to Danielle, I had just received constructive feedback on a substantial draft of the first book I had solely written. I was swimming in fear and uncertainty about how to incorporate the editors’ notes within a very short time frame.

Danielle struck the incredible balance of compassionate active listener and shepherd armed with critical questions and inspiring prompts. Her thought partnership helped me to clearly articulate my ideas and shape what finally became The Creativity Leap: Unleash Curiosity, Improvisation and Intuition at Work. I continue to recommend Danielle to any writer, at any stage- and have hired her again to work on my next writing project! You’re in excellent hands with Danielle.

When I was looking for an editor, it was incredibly important for me to find someone who was not only experienced, but could "get'' what I was trying to say.

Danielle got it from the moment we talked.

She not only helped me flesh out my ideas, but she patiently worked with me through the editing process. Her patience, her attention to detail, and her understanding of how to make a concept come to life has been instrumental.

Danielle was a perspective editor on my project "A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor" which received starred reviews from Booklist and Library Journal. Her comments were thoughtful and insightful and delivered in a constructive and clear document followed by a hugely helpful phone conversation. She was prompt and always available to answer questions.

Danielle's careful and thoughtful insight was extremely valuable, helping me construct a better story and more fully realized and realistic characters. Her comments were delivered in simple, structured ways and she did a fantastic job both identifying problems and suggesting potential solutions. She was prompt and always available to answer questions.

Danielle is an incredible resource for authors and publishers alike because she strikes just the right balance between spaciousness and structure.

Danielle is fabulous. She helped me reorganize parts of Touching the Jaguar in a manner that greatly improved it and did lots of excellent word and idea editing. She also was extremely talented at pointing out areas where my words could be more culturally sensitive and where I might express more of my own emotions about how I felt to be a privileged White male working in other cultures. She pushed me in gentle and effective ways — exactly what you want from an editor. I highly recommend her.

Danielle has a gift for working with authors in a way that provides specific, detailed, and extensive guidance for improving their publications but that the authors welcome and find helpful rather than threatening to them or critical of their work. As a result, Danielle is able to bring about major improvements in publications. And both authors and the publisher find her always professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with.

I can't imagine trying to write a book without Danielle Goodman in my corner.

Danielle brought extraordinary skill to what could have been a difficult process and added a lived experience component to her guidance that was invaluable.  Her skill in helping us create a nearly 100% ready-now manuscript on the first draft was truly amazing. It was way more than simply editing.  She challenged us on flow, depth of content, and logic for making our best ideas pop! It was impressive to watch her do her work.

What also stood out for me was her style in guiding a writing process that can be emotional, difficult, and rewarding. She clearly cared for my experience as a writer and was able to provide exceptional guidance, and meaningful feedback in a way that was encouraging, motivating, and developmental. This was very evident in her ability to merge two writers' voices into one coherent, focused voice. If you are looking for an elite book project manager, editor, construction and flow visionary, and a wonderful human being, then Danielle is your person.

Danielle is a gifted editor. She quickly grasped the essence of the the messages I wanted to convey and distilled them into a book of which I am very proud. I may have created all of the puzzle pieces but Danielle was the one who assembled them into a completed puzzle. She is highly collaborative, gentle and positive in her feedback, meets deadlines and timelines, and makes the whole process go smoothly. As a first time author she made what could have been a very intimidating process a thoroughly delightful partnership. I highly recommend her and look forward to working with her again in the future.

Danielle is an outstanding freelance editor. We worked together when one of her authors brought me on to handle the publicity campaign for the book launch, and Danielle was an incredibly valuable part of the process. Her deep understanding of the author's book and business made her the perfect sounding board for pitch angles and story ideas, and her writing and editing skills ensured that every communication that went out was well-crafted. She is intelligent, positive and collaborative, and by far one of the best freelance editors I have ever worked with.

I have known Danielle in her role as a top editor for Berrett-Koehler publishers. When it came time to select an editor for my latest book, Creating Introvert-Friendly Workplaces, she was the natural choice. Danielle's work was exemplary in every way. She is sharp, incisive and quickly understood my voice. I consulted with her on the flow from beginning to end of the writing process and always valued her clear input, which elevated my manuscript to a higher level.

Some editors "overedit" and Danielle weighed in only when she felt it was important to do so. She always beat her deadlines and was an excellent communicator throughout our time together. A true partner. Danielle is worth every penny and more. I feel so fortunate that she took my project on and contributed in such a significant way!

Danielle is a great partner. Professional. Personable. Persistent. She will keep you on track with advice, constructive critiques and a constant flow of ideas and encouragement.

We worked together for over a year and Danielle was by my side every step of the way: coaching, encouraging and keeping me on track. She has a special ability to stimulate better writing and she made my words count even more and come alive in ways I never imagined.

Danielle was forthright, upfront and no bs. As I began writing, the scope of my book morphed into more than I originally intended, in part due to Danielle's insights, encouragement and guidance. Danielle's positive lessons taught and friendship are enduring assets that continue to enrich my life. I wish I had another book in me so we could work together again.

Working with Danielle was a game changer for me towards the end of the process. I’ve never experienced such an instant fit in a work collaboration before!  From her first read and our initial conversations, I felt not only did she ‘get’ what I was trying to say, she embraced the text as if it were here own.

She guides without dictating, advises without overtaking, and improves readability and comprehension in a way that speaks to your initial intent and purpose; she conveys your words in a more compelling way.

She is uber professional, upbeat and positive, and meets every deadline.  I felt my book was in a trusted pair of hands, and her touch greatly improved the overall storytelling.  The only change I’ll make on my next book is bringing Danielle in even earlier.
